Contents Inside the Box

MD Paper COTTON Sketchbook MD Notebook Cotton [F2]

MD Notebook Cotton [F2]

This is a true workhorse of a sketchbook with 20% cotton pulp-based paper. This sketchbook is more geared towards drawing and sketching with various media than other MD Paper products. The paper texture feels excellent when used with pencils, pens, fountain pens, color pencils, etc. The bigger, F2 size and 200 pages provide ample space for experiments! Thanks to its unusual binding, it can be opened flat too.

In the F2 size the “F” stands for “figure” – this French size standard is based on the golden ratio!

TIP: Use some wrapping paper or stickers to make a nice cover! You can paint something on it too!

uni Pin Fineliners, .5mm

uni Pin Fineliners, .5mm

These felt tip pens make beautiful lines on the MD cotton sketchbook paper and feel great in hand! The ink is waterproof when dry, so it can be used with watercolors and watercolor pencils without any smudging and does not fade. The cap snaps onto the back of the pen with a satisfying click!

TIP: Try using the thinner pen for things further away and the 0.5mm line for the foreground elements.

Blackwing Natural pencil

Blackwing Natural pencil

This is an excellent general-use pencil made of high-quality incense cedar wood with a smooth, Japan-made core. The “natural” variety of the Blackwing is soft enough to be used on its own for drawing but hard enough that it’s easy to erase and can also be used to make delicate underdrawings for ink or watercolor pencil renderings. The extendable eraser helps with correcting small mistakes too!

TIP: Try different angles and vary the pressure for many line effects!

Caran D’Ache Supracolor soft Aquarelle

Caran D’Ache Supracolor soft Aquarelle

These pencils’ cores are water-soluble, so they can be used with a water brush pen (or a regular brush) for many interesting effects. At the same time, they are sturdy enough to be sharpened to a long, fine pointed tip, so it’s a pleasure to draw even fine details. But above all, these pencils give vibrant and deep colors even if applied with moderate pressure. Watch the video here.

TIP: You can use the brush pen to pick color straight from the pencil tip too!

Kuretake ZIG Watercolor system brush

Kuretake ZIG Watercolor system brush

A water brush pen is a very versatile and useful tool to have, especially when sketching outside. It can be used on its own by picking paint from regular watercolors or watercolor pencil tips or for adding water effects to a drawing already colored with soluble pencils. The transparent body helps in keeping tabs on how much water is left.

TIP: You can quickly fill the pen from running tap water.

Tombow MONO Eraser

Tombow MONO Eraser

Plastic eraser widely used by artists in Japan. The eraser on the end of the BLACKWING pencil is enough for small corrections when sketching lightly, but for any serious pencil erasing, MONO does a great job!

TIP: Don’t hold it too far or press too firmly — it can break!

Faber-Castell 9000 Sharpener

Faber-Castell 9000 Sharpener

A good quality sharpener with two holes for different sizes of pencils. If you have problems with crumbling core color pencils - try using the bigger one. Equipped with a plastic container and closing nearly, it's great for sketching in any place, like a cafe or at the library too!
